Shaykh ʿUbayd al-Jābirī was asked:

Is supplication immediately after prayer an innovation and is reciting the Qurʾān collectively also an innovation?

He answered:

If you mean collective supplication [after the prayer] this is an innovation, yes. Likewise, reciting the Qurʾān collectively, just like supplication [collectively], it is also from the innovations. However, there is nothing to prevent a teacher presenting a verse to his students and making them recite it [collectively] whilst he is listenting, if Allāh wills, there is nothing to prevent this. Though it is better that each of them recites separately.
